Diabetic Cardiomyopathy
Our Research Program is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of diabetic cardiomyopathy, a diabetes mellitus-induced cardiac muscle disorder.

We aim to understand the causes of mitochondrial damage, cell death, inflammation, impaired autophagy and mitophagy, and cardiac remodeling (hypertrophy and fibrosis) in the diabetic heart and whether it can be improved by supplying miR-133a mimic, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donor, inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) in the diabetic heart, and/or exercise training.
